brown faces onscreen, it’s not that necessary that brown faces be cast on the show to (be picked) to direct/produce via Project Greenlight …(so be glad your blacka$$es even get a role-onscreen perhaps? Or: Leave the power playing and shot-calling to the power players-not yous? Hmm).

Fast forward.
In a later interview, Damon states:
“I’m glad Effie flagged the issue of diversity for all of us.”
Additionally he asserts that being concerned about hiring diverse filmmakers undermines the integrity of the entire project and instead, the only focus of picking directors should be merit while
[quote] “leaving all other factors out of it.”

That withstanding, the fact is-I totally get Matt’s point, as a person who too is pro: talent, skill (and merit) over bullsh/t and fluff of today… I’m with him (in that regard-on anything film or otherwise).
But the POINT which he too, (be white-“White Boying”) he doesn’t understand the concern (as the reason given for her suggestion).
The CONCERN is NOT an “Effie eye” looking out for and for making sure “black people are included” in the directing of his project.
The CONCERN was that C O N S I D E R I N G the TYPE of role of one of the characters (being stereotypically type-cast as the only types of roles blacks are cast and known for playing which…as a result gets overlooked and disrespected as not ‘acting’ (versus-being judged as ‘who they are in real life anyways), so that the character getting directed in the role is not marginalized and overlooked like such, [Effie feels that] PERHAPS a person of color should be picked FOR that reason, again: BECAUSE a character (of color) is being written in to such a stereotypical role.
THAT’S the part Matt Damon’s not understanding.
If I am to be honest with you, to all that, I have to say this: White people have to get over suggestions like such (like Effie’s) , being some kind of “infiltration” move of black people posseing up for some kind racial takeover for ‘power.’
Matt’s “white-boying” only picked up/understood her suggestion as a ‘black fist’ed statement and black power’s need for inclusion into power roles (for takeover). When the inquiry, concern, and suggestion [of Effie’s] was more than just that.
Get it?
At any rate.
The interpretation of the authority on diversity via #Damonsplaining games began right about here (and well…like this):
