FIRST FOODS FIRST
If you follow me enough, you KNOW what I feel about firsts, and the foundation of things. The same thing goes for the food we nourish our bodies with in the mornings or at first break of fast (whenever that is for you).
Typically, for the majority of us Americans, that first break of fasting is mornings-when the sun comes up. Like the very first words we think, and ingest in the morning, what we eat first can
set the tone of our day and way.
In the mornings, we should not only try and think well thoughts and be solution driven (versus waking up thinking about problems or challenges), but too, intentionally eat food to nourish our bodies such that our bodies will be happy to work with us. So rather than sugary cereals and pastries (and even lattes and or that ‘psuedo healthy’ sugary/high fructose corn syrup tasting orange juice), rice milk, soy milk, coconut milk, eggs, (and even leafy greens in the morning), eggs, nuts, Ezekiel bread with an avocado spread, yogurt (Greek yogurt), spinach, and tomatoes are good choices. And of course, if you’re into juicing, smoothies made of some or all these things can make your breakfast a one-shot healthy deal: drop it in the hopper and viola! In the cup-turn it up!
For juicing, what I learned is, for those that don’t get much green, leafy vegetables in their diets, if you blend you greens, the ONE fruit that makes ANY amount of vegetables taste good in a juice is a mango. Try it! A mango will help you get ANY necessary nutrient in (via blender) that we just may not want to eat on a plate.
My favorite morning quickie are egg whites, spinach and tomatoes sprinkled with lots of pepper. I pig out on that. If I want to taste salt, I sprinkle a little feta cheese, crumbled blue cheese or grated parmesan cheese over it.
