with an understanding and study of art history, other creative artists, and multiple forms of art; I’m guessing that if Christo and Jeanne Claude can wrap whole islands, mountains, trees, monuments, buildings and countless other massive unimaginatives as conceptual art:
—then Madonna feels she can wrap other artists, humanitarians, creatives…………..and dignitaries, intellectuals, like: Dr. Martin Luther King (who did indeed have a dream and fought for human and civil rights) and as well: Nelson Mandela who fought for freedom and went to jail, for years, for doing it.
And as Madonna would have it would wrap it; they too, like all others she’s wrapping: are “Rebel Hearts.”
A lot of people are highly offended by Madonna taking two leaders and well respected dignitaries and intertwining them into her “agenda to sell a record.” For the record, I was initially offendedmyself, but before I jumped to + decided on a knee-jerk emotional conclusion (and response)…Like with any other human being, celebrity or not, before I judge and condemn them….I took the time to analyze her footsteps (as you can see from top to bottom of this write-up)…That helped me decide whether or not I felt Madonna was doing this for attention for publicity for her new CD.
Well, what did I conclude?
I concluded that because this controversy is no less “appalling” or “offensive” than the Madonna of yesteryear; I concluded that coming from HER…I will accept it and look at it is art…I will accept what she says she is wrapping about and for.
As for you, reading this, let me sum up one question for YOU?
[Like Madonna] Is all that you say YOU are, and what YOU do…do YOU have a paper trail and footprint of being that person–[doing whatever it is you profess to be and are] before platforms were made available for you to garner attention?
Riddle me that.
If not…(and you’re over 18/20 years old), then why should I believe YOU and what you say you are, and are about (or stand for)? I mean…since the invent of the Internet/social media, the going rate for bullsh|t is affording entire lifestyles and livings-for little or nothing but the willingness to do dumb $h|t for attention right?
Having said all that, if Madonna didn’t have a footprint and paper trail of being who she is and doing all that she says she’s about, and stands for (pre-social media); she could wrap these wires around her head to the crack of her butt for all I’d care…I probably wouldn’t accept what’s she’s done (nor would I believe her message or movement).
But the fact of the matter is, before condemning her for doing what she was doing I had to first consider her reason given for the #rebelheart cause. And secondly: her track record of being and doing things like such having been done before social media gives her more wiggle room with me…It says to me that it not strictly for Internet attention to sell a record.
You see, the “people” problem in this world today is that it lacks critical thinkers and people who actually know how to think well. Being able to think well is not exactly about being “smart.” You have book and even street smart people–rich, famous and successful people in the world today who are still terrible critical thinkers. Being a critical thinker is all a matter of being able to remove your pro or con personal feelings and emotions with regard to a situation in order to determine the outcome simply being about the facts or frame of reference in front of your face or presented to you.
While it’s easy to scream emotionally about it being disrespectful that she wrapped the faces of the likes of Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela, the fact (according to her reasoning) is that like when she wrapped her own face…as a rebel heart herself (having fought fights for certain freedoms) others as well did too. So her reasoning for wrapping them was to identify them having fought good fights as did she-NOT comparing them to the likes of Miley Cyrus (or even herself).
Be a better critical thinker versus and “emotional thinker.” There really even isn’t such a thing as an “emotional thinker.” “Emotional” thinkers just emote. Emote via ranting and reply without thinking: merely feeling and thinking it’s “thinking.” The better critical thinker you are, the more people will trust your judgment (and even the ability to think for them when or if ever the event happens that they couldn’t think or defend themselves). A critical thinker is necessary on your job, your family, among your friends, social media–everywhere. Because you can’t argue facts and frames of reference. To try and do so only makes an “emotional thinker” look stupid: stupid even over the fact that critical thinking’s not even about being smart. “Stupid” in that it’s a good indicator that you can’t even remove your personal feelings (pro or con) to come to a rational, reasonable conclusion (which is very necessary in this life we live. People have lost lives, livelihoods, families, jobs, and major things over no one stepping up to speak critically on their behalf.
Emotions tear down worlds, break spirits and can ruin people unnecessarily.
You never know. It might be you that needs a critical-thinking person to defend or speak for you. Practice being one, yourself. The world needs you.
P.S.-If you didn’t already, watch that interview mid-page (page 1 of this blog)…she said some pretty poignant things and made some good points, I must say.
