We all like to wake up to various things: spiritual, physical, religious, and otherwise.
For some of us, the best part of waking up is Folgers in our cup (or at least-the smell of it).
Well say no more (iPhone users).
If you like to wake up to the smell of something, from the looks of things-if all goes well with this new app, bacon’s gonna be the first out the gate (even before hitting your plate) and from there, you know that everything else you wish to wake up and smell will soon be right in the palm of your hands.
In the beginning, Oscar Mayer had a way with the b-o-l-o-g-n-a.
Now, the food giant made a way with b-a-c-o-n as an aroma to wake up to when you wake up to the alarm app made possible with an iPhone dongle.
The dongle is plugged into the iPhone’s headphone slot and when paired with the iOS app (that releases the smell of bacon when the alarm sounds) you’ll be up and squealing like a pig in no time—fat…I mean: flat.
The inspiration for this app came from what people are #hashtagging. And company owners are watching-trying to get in where they fit in. Tom Bick, senior director of integrated marketing and advertising at Oscar Mayer explains in a statement: “With nearly two million mentions of #bacon on Instagram, it seems people never get tired of bacon. That’s why our team decided to develop a device to give folks what they long for most. As category leader, Oscar Mayer is thrilled to bring the first-ever, bacon-scented mobile device to market-giving bacon aficionados a new reason to welcome their morning alarm clocks.” …(complete with a lifetime supply of coupons to ensure Oscar Mayer bacon rather than the awesome taste of Morning Star’s soy bacon will be your oink of choice I’m sure).
Before you get your hoofs ready for this, do know that Oscar Mayer is only making a limited number of devices which won’t be for sale. Through April 4, you bacon aficionados will have to apply to win the dongle for the app by taking a quiz on Oscar Mayer’s website and the winners will receive their bacon-scented devices within 6-8 weeks.
This got me to thinking.
I don’t know if you remember the little boy (Andrew Thompson) who won the Oscar Mayer jingle contest over the thousands of kids who sang the notorious jingle [who sang it on the Oprah Show], well, he’s all grown up now, and perhaps now that he’s got control of his riff’s (unlike at age four on that Oprah Show clip), ya’ think Oscar Mayer may reach back at the guy and let him serenade the lucky winners?
He’s older now. Check out this clip of his nice voice (and how he too, can laugh at himself-imitating his younger self and that HORRIBLE but cute Oscar Mayer jingle that made its way around the world and got Oscar Mayer major publicity).
