As [Eric B and] Rakim would rap it: “It’s been a long time. I shouldn’t have left you. Without a Dope Beat to Step To.”
…those are most probably the sentiments of Missy Elliott, whose lay-low for over nine years now is greatly missed but with a catalog like hers—[she] can most certainly afford to and has the right to.
But with nine years having passed since her last album, in a chat with Yahoo’s “The Yo Show” , the music phenom opens up about why she closed her door on putting out new music and candidly admits that fans will probably keep waiting.
She explains to the shows host Michael Yo: “When I create something, it’s gotta be special. And it can’t just be to throw something out there because I feel like I’m Missy. I gotta feel like what I’m giving the fans is 100% and that it’s game-changing. I don’t just throw out microwave records.”
After being diagnosed with Graves Disease, although Missy Missy bowed out the music scene in 2005 after “The Cookbook,” the consistent hit-maker didn’t rust and rest on her loins. While playing the back, she is also responsible for producing and lending her voice, producing skills and creative talents to other hot R&B singers such as
Keyshia Cole
Jazmine Sullivan
Jennifer Hudson
Monica, and
Fantasia.
Although Elliott teased fans with a possible seventh album “Block Party” which had singles on it like “Best, Best,” “Ching a Ling,” and “Shake Your Pom Pom”; no full-length crystallized and gave us all that Missy magic we were yearning for.
In late 2012 she did however, drop two singles “9th Inning” and “Triple Threat,” where she reunited with her right-hand man and music collaborator Timbaland but release no date for a full album.
Be that as it may, she assures us all that a comeback is imminent however she’s not telling anybody just when. Well if you follow her on Twitter, you will know that her comeback is in command. And since the moment she stepped on the scene, she’s consistently put on nothing but hits for herself and other artist’s throughout the music industry and all music genres and otherwise.
With having done that and how much her return in greatly anticipated, if she where to pull a surprise Beyonce, she it would certainly work for her, too.
Let’s take a look at a few songs from her very own catalog (even without Timbaland) that you probably didn’t know she was the mastermind behind:

Respect due, about as long the return of Missy Elliott is overdue.
