The cycle of an artist on a “regular” job, in regular life is a world that only artists can tell you about. It’s horrible.
So when you consider that (and yet again, being out of a job based on an employer exercising their “at will” laws I might add), while getting fired might have worked out for that artist as, yes…they just may have a lump sum check of 9gs come in. But by that time, their 6k behind on bills and gotta invest 3k back into the grind (with maybe a dollar left to eat).
How in the hell do you report all that to “Section 8”? (plus having had 15 jobs by which you’ve come and gone so fast you don’t even remember where the check stub is).
Are you serious? How do you report that?
Big Freedia is right like hell (when she said):
“Housing vouchers are a vital lifeline for many people I know in New Orleans and around the country, including struggling artists. I truly believe there needs to be more programs for artists and musicians to teach basic financial literacy and planning. Coming from where I came from, I know that I could have used that kind of assistance. “
You can’t imagine the stress, and annoyance an artist goes through behind their perceived fame and “fortune” fortunate-ness (in the eyes of the regular’s envy). It’s real.
But that’s just what separates the real artist versus the dreamer: The sacrifice and risks. All those things are the perils that come with havign to invest in yesterday with no one investing in you. The reward is that after your storm you owe no one.
And should your art be in demand and sought after while broke and grinding, while investing in yourself-you even owe no one then (when your art speaks for itself). Those end up being the big rewards after and during) the struggle.
Grinding artist are in a whole new world and class by themselves separate from the “regular” world and too, the world of fame-especially when their ART is more famous than their pockets.
Oh the stories I could tell you (which will go into my blog and spiel about 50 Cent / Judge situation).
I have a VERY big stance on that.
Being on television (television famous) or the Internet (Internet famous) doesn’t make you any more famous than 50 Cent has the right to post picks of himself with money on Instagram still with having filed bankruptcy.
Because what right does a Judge have to SNOOP into his social media life and render any rule?
Life on social media, television or Internet and real life are two totally different things.
Big Freedia is right.
Ask any artist.
