AMY POEHLER & TINA FEY, Rap Artist COMMON, JOHN LEGEND, PRINCE & CHRISTY TEIGEN at 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Stole the Show!?

Begin_Read

tina-fey-amy-poehler-golden-globes-monologueHosted by comediennes Amy Poehler and her BFF Tina Fey, the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards aired last night at the Beverly Hilton and was either the place to be—or the thing to see.

Alongside the jokes, jabs, and quips (obviously, with top headlines centering around wine and women) despite the possible/alleged seriousness surrounding pending legal issues against fellow comedian (Bill Cosby) Amy and Tina would be remised is they didn’t take a jab, or two, or three…or four…or five…or six…or…oh you get it!

It went something like that!

Alas.

It was poet and rap artist, Common, who stole the show however—superceded by an unexpected surprise for all: [an award] presented by artist Prince!

???????????????????

Common delivered a poignant speech that certainly pierced the hearts all and anyone who had one-throughout the room, or watching.

In lieu (and still in the midst of) the stirring emotions and motions that birthed the #BlackLivesMatter protests, Common took a moment to eloquently turn a reflective yet, diplomatic mirror to the face on the issues surrounding recent police shootings [retaliation of] and protests in opposition of the latter.

Upon accepting his Golden Globe for “Best Original Song,” he quipped:

“I wanna thank God and the Hollywood Foreign Press.”Common and John Legend

He then continued:

The first day I stepped on the set of Selma, I began to feel like this was bigger than a movie. As I got to know the people of the Civil Rights Movement, I realized:

I am the hopeful black woman who was denied her right to vote.

I am the caring white supporter, killed on the front lines of freedom.

I am the unarmed black kid, who maybe needed a hand, but instead was given a bullet.

I am the two fallen police officers murdered in the line of duty.

Selma has awakened my humanity, and I thank you Ava [Duvernay the film’s director].

Ava, you are a superhero. You used the art to elevate us all…and bring us together.Common and John Legend

I wanna thank CAA, I wanna thank Paramount for having the heart to make this movie and “Plan B” (Jeremy) you know we love Hip Hop and we brought it to the…we brought music and art and soul here. Thank you Plan B.”

Oprah…for what you do for the people from the past and creating for the future…

We…we look to the future, and we want to create a better world. Now is our time to change the world. Selma is now.”

Common is a poet and rap artist who can indeed speak from personal experience and authentic concern like such [as his speech entails] as, his 2014 poignantly titled “Nobody’s Smiling”album was inspired by his native Chicago’s plight and his personal, heartfelt desire to stop the overwhelming amount of crime plaguing the city.

Although he is a rap artist (a “conscious” rap artistic at that) and still, although we haven’t heard-tell of his name collecting any Grammy’s or among the many [rappers] fighting and upset with music’s Golden Globe Night (The Grammy’s); Common did snag such a prestigious and coveted award from film’s “Grammy” night, still: through his music.

John Legend, in collaboration with Common, also shared in the winning of the “Best Original Song” Golden Globe for “Glory”

…a song from the soundtrack for the Martin-Luther King inspired African-American historical drama Selma starring Oyetokunbo Oyelowo as MLK, Carmen Elizabeth , Ejogo as Coretta Scott King,  Oprah as civil right’s activist Annie Lee Cooper.

Obviously with the invent of social media, celebrities have to “put on their best face” even more so than years before social media, because Tweets are twatchin’ and let the Tweets tell it; John Legend’s wife could re-write Tyra Banks’ definition of what a “smize” is (a smile with your eyes). LoL

While watching her husband John and Common’s speech, she made “meme” of the night.

Check out the other exchanges:

Well if you know anything about Christy Teigen (outside of being a beautiful swimsuit model and John Legends wife), then you KNOW she, herself, is the Regina George of trolling .

She took the trolling on her all in stride however, and Tweeted:

…then she and hubby John Legend joked their rendition of the Christy smize:

…and yes, Prince got meme’d too:

OSFPopCultureFact:

For the record guys, this isn’t Prince’s first time presenting someone at the Globes, he also presented Jaime Foxx at the 62nd Annual Golden Globes for his role in”Ray.”
