2014 54th ANNUAL NAACP IMAGE AWARDS

History:

For starters, the acronym (NAACP) stands for: National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Established in 1967 to honor outstanding people of color in film, television, music, and literature, the NAACP Awards wasn’t nationally televised until 1994-established to publicly honor the Latina/Latino/African/ American community (of colored people).

Fox Network was the network where the first live broadcast of the event occurred [in 2007-its 38th edition]. After 2007, the ceremony had been broadcast with a broadcast delay.

The NAACP Awards is what the Academy Awards/Oscars is to the mainstream entertainment industry and too, like the Grammy’s is to the music industry (less the rap/hip-hop category of noms that even the Grammy does have-NAACP typically does not, as yet/thus far).

The 35 categories by which particular persons of film, television, music, and literature are chosen, are voted upon by the award organizations members (NAACP members).

Honorary awards (like/as done for the Academy Awards) have also been included within the NAACP award categories. They are: the President’s Award, the Chairman’s Award, Entertainment of the Year Award, and the Image Award Hall of Fame Award.

The ceremonial event is typically held annually in Los Angles between end February/beginning of March.

The 44th NAACP Awards ceremony was aired (for the first time) on NBC.

The 45th NAACP Awards ceremony was aired on cable television network TVOne.
