The past 365 days has been a year of firsts for singer Rihanna.
First: she received the first ever American Music Award Icon award, and is the first singing pop starlet that’s graced the coveted cover of Vogue. Gracing the cover of Vogue must have worked well in her favor because now she’s receiving a similar honor from the fashion world of the CFDA.
The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc.) announced this past Monday that Rihanna would be the proud recipient of the CFDA Fashion Icon Award to be given to her on June 2 in New York City at the Lincoln Center’s Alice Trully Hall.
The CFDA Award is and award given to those whose style has made an impact on the world of pop culture the world over. And Rihanna certainly does that.
Just this week, with bestie Melissa walking shotgun, the Popstar Fashionette was seen stepping out with her school-girl bang and ponytail, dressed in a modern day/60’s high-school styled inspired look high-tailing it out of Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica wearing white lace sneakers, a solid, white, midriff long-sleeved bodice wrapped shirt, on top of a riske’ poodle-styled lace, see-through skirt—giving onlookers a peep at what was visibly a pair of pink undies.
Although Rihanna can lift her skirt in wins on many feats of “firsts,” Lil’ Kim did this kind of skirt first (so says my killer fashion recollection collection of popular culture fashion)! That skirt was a less formal styled one-reminiscent of one that Lil Kim wore at a VH1 Awards show some years back, looking hot in her see-through number.
Rihanna however, the first American Music Award Icon winner, will be receiving her first fashion award and joining the list of past recipients: Lady Gaga, Iman, Kate Moss, and Nicole Kidman.
The 26 year-old pop star is set to launch a three-date tour co-healing with rapper Eminem which will begin on August 8 in Los Angeles.
Along with Eminem, with whom she collaborated two No. 1 hits “The Monster,” and “Love The Way You Lie,” Rihanna will launch a three-date co-headlining tour beginning Aug. 8 in Los Angeles.
