Sponsored by Grey Goose Vodka and D’usse Cognac, Rihanna hosted her very first Diamond Ball-benefitting the Clara Lionel Foundation. The foundation is an organization working to improve the quality of life for communities around the world in areas of health, education, the arts, and culture.
Tyrese, Big Sean, Ne-Yo, Adrienne Bailon, Vashtie, Kat Graham, Monyetta Shaw, Nikki Reed, Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Selma Hayek, Brad Pitt and more were in attendance for the event.
Although the crowd took it all in stride, if there were any awkward moments to have happened, Oscar-winner Brad Pitt would taken home the award for that one.
Beginning with a childhood photo of Rihanna, Brad flew quips flying like:
“I’ve often asked the very questions you yourself are asking right now—what the fvck went wrong?, It’s not a pretty story. Like so many others, Rihanna landed on the unforgiving streets of New York at the young age of 16, and soon fell in with a bad crowd, a bad crowd led by the dubious nefarious character known as the Jay Z. For those of you not in the know, the Jay Z was an evil impresario known for churning out hit records, and ripping insane lyrics and fresh beats. “
It was as if Brad nearly forgot he was at a formal ball (rather than at a roast) but all went well as he joked and ended with:
“Since turning the ripe age of 26, Rihanna sadly has had only 13 number one singles, only 54 million albums sold, only seven Grammys, 11 Billboard Awards. Her resume’s even more disappointing: executive producer, fashion designer, actress, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and uh, something else… and uh… she sometimes sings.”
I was good to see Brad Pitt out of his shell as, we rarely get to see him in that kind of light.
Rihanna was honored to have him speak at the event where to, she performed a medley of her hits and served as curator to her orchestra (which now next year, can be added to her list of ‘onlys’ Brad). 🙂
