One week ago, due to health reasons, she announced she would not be able to attend the 2014 MLB Beacon Awards luncheon for which she was to be honored. And last month, she canceled an event in Fayettevile, Arkansas while recovering from an unexpected ailment that left her hospitalized.
Today, it was announced that Dr. Maya Angelou died at the age of 86.
Born, Marguerite Annie Johnson on April 4, 1928, along with her sleuth of accolades; Angelou is best known for her novel “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and as well, her famous poems like “Still I Rise” and “Phenomenal Woman” (which has always been one of my faves that I felt spoke both for and to me over the years and tickled my confidence’s fancy). I loved it so much I had to include it on my personal blog site back in an entry in March 2012.
This sad news story is just in, and Other Side of the Fame will inform you of more if and when there is more to share.
May she rest in peace.
