Pop’s M.I.A’s Seen on the Scene: ADELE (+ JANET JACKSON – Scores New Record Label & Partnership With BMG )

What do these two pop stars have in common?

….Both went M.I.A on the music scene and seen on the scene as recent as yesterday.

What they don’t have in common is that we’re still awaiting an album from Adele and Janet just recently confirmed that she does in deed-have some hummin’ comin’ atcha.

Since then however, even bigger news is on the horizon for the Rhythm Nation singer.

Rather than going with a label, via BMG (one of the major music entities that manages music publishing and recording rights) the company is (too) branching off into a partnership deal with Jackson for release of her first album in almost 7 years—on her own label “Rhythm Nation Records.”

The full (untitled) album is slated for a Fall 2015 release [and quote] “commitment to pursue the full range of options within the broader Bertelsmann group of which BMG is a part of” [unquote].

This relationship with BMG and Jackson sets a record as Janet being its very first African American female recording artist on the roster of music rights/royalty business that too, branched off and started a label housed under the music publishing company.

The partnership not only lends itself to Jackson’s upcoming project, but too, Rhythm Nation Records is opening its doors for other artists (established and new) to be given the opportunity to be apart of this label deal as well.

To the established recording artist of today who understands the business of records, this deal is a dream by comparison to the traditional label deal as, consider BMG’s ownership and management of all artists music/publishing rights and recording as it stands, getting on board with Rhythm Nation (unlike the traditional record label) leaves the artists in the drivers seat of their own business. This artist services deal affords the artist to retain ownership of their recordings and full oversight of all costs and revenues.

BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch states BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch said, “Janet is not just a supreme artist, she is a unique cultural force whose work resonates around the world. It is an honor that she has chosen BMG to release her long-awaited new album. We look forward to collaborating with her across every platform.”
