Lil’ Wayne will soon be retiring after his upcoming latest effort Tha Carter V.
He recently performed at the SXSW Music and Film Festival in Austin Texas and while there, was interviewed-where he told fans after this next solo album: It’s a wrap, for the rapper.
He is not going to completely drop off the scene. Lil’ Wayne is going to continue assisting other artist on the Young Money Entertainment label with their own projects-the only thing different is that he is hanging up the mic own solo projects of his own.
Wayne told Elliott Wilson during the interview: “I’m approaching it like it is my last project, and I think that’s why it’s a lot different than everything else. That’s why I think the grind is different. I’m working harder. I’m approaching it a whole lot different. I’m approaching it as if you don’t have tomorrow.”
In addition to bowing out and assisting other artists, Wayne is also releasing his “jail journal.” Rather than putting those chronicles in the form of rap songs for future albums, he is putting ink to paper for books-coming to a bookstore near you.
Yeah, I know you say “we’ve heard it all before” –rappers claiming “retired” and next thing we know a new single begets some cameos on other artist’s projects and then coming out of retirement miraculously begins. Even talk show host Jimmy Kimmel’s poked fun at Lil’ Wayne’s announcement of a retirement: “Will this be a real retirement or one of your usual retirements, or a rap retirement when you make 12 albums after that. I mean Tupac died and he’s still making albums,” he joked.

To MTV, he did note however, (and I quote) “25-35 million would get me to do another solo album after this. I didn’t smile when I said that,” (unquote).
When Uncle Sam’s got your _ _ _ _ in a clutch, it can cause any man temporary insanity—[like retiring from an occupation in the middle of being so good and still making your mark and too, while in your prime].
But don’t think Wayne is going out any less than the bang of a 21-gun salute-no-not by a long shot. He stated [about his working so hard on this last effort-about his working mad hard on it]: “It seems like it’d be impossible for me to work this hard again for anything else.”
I, and I’m sure many of you too, and looking forward to this being nothing LESS than Wayne’s best. And if he can say [what I quoted] with as much assurance as he did, this has to top Carter III, and by golly Carter III was insane.
We love Lil’ Wayne here at Other Side of the Fame and looking forward to Carter V.
In keeping with this particular write up about Lil’ Wayne, sit back and enjoy a couple of our many poignant FAVS from Weezy I selected to post: “Shoot Me Down” and “Misunderstood“
“And ain’t it funny how people change
Like Easter Sunday, you know “church” fit then “outfit”Bright pink and green chest look house lit
Bright pinky rings but that ain’t about this, WHAT’CHOO ‘BOUT B!TCH!?
Excuse my French, emotion in my passion
But I wear my heart on my sleeve like it’s the new fashionWhat are you askin?
If I don’t have the answer its probably on the web
Like I’m a damn Tarantula but I know you don’t understand
Cause you thought Lil Wayne is Weezy but Weezy is Wayne..”
…you have NO idea. It’s like he stole those lyrics and that song from MY HEART-my rebuttal to the world that don’t know me. And if you don’t know me-but aint got the guts to ask me…that right there is my answer. He even raps and pronounciates it like from my head and my heart. You’d KILL to see me rap the lyrics to this song. It’s SO personally poignant to me. I get carried away-alone-all in..even alone in the car driving and rapping out: “fcking fantastic. fck if you agree. I’m bright but I don’t give a fck if You. See. Me.” / and “and ain’t it funny how people change like Easter Sunday, you know: “church” fit then “outfit…”Bright pink and green chest look house lit..Bright pinky rings but that ain’t about this, what’choo’bout b!tch!” part, too. If you even understand what he’s saying about that alone…you’d know this song can’t be denied…
I LOVE when a song (regardless the genre) can speak for me.
“Skate Wayne!”
LOVE this guy. Wish him well.
