The Queen of Soul: Aretha Franklin is from the old school [of home training and R-E-S-P-E-C-T]. And us young whipper-snappers with all our new-age child’s play, train of thought, and lack thereof will not play games with her.
The legendary singing powerhouse filed a $10 million dollar lawsuit against the editors of an online parody website called TheNewsNerd.com who, on April 11, published a fake story about the Queen of Soul being involved in a feud with another soul legend (and singing friend): Patti LaBelle.
On April 15, when Franklin got a hold of the news, she posted a formal denial letter-disputing the claims the site’s claims-and from there, proceeded to take legal action.
Although the site posted [the typical, standard, rhetoric] claiming the article was “purely satirical” and used for “entertainment purposes only” still, it didn’t go over too well with Ms. Franklin who found no satire or humor in it.
According to our source, it was suggested that Patti LaBelle was arrested for assault and battery after attacking Franklin at a concert in March.
Franklin’s publicist Gwendolyn Quinn stated, on behalf of Franklin: “The stories were not presented as satire or humor. It was presented as a serious news story intended to depict me in a slanderous and derogatory way.”
In classic “showing ‘em what humor is” style, in her defense (against the website’s feature), Franklin’s denial read as follows: “I’ve never heard anything crazier— regarding myself and Patti allegedly fighting on March 20 in Atlanta. On March 20, I was in New York City readying for my birthday patty (Sorry. LOL. Laughing at my typo error). I meant PARTY, which we all had one fabulous time. Patti and I are cool and we always have been.”
