his person—even down to publicly calling the dude “corny.”
With millions upon millions of Barbs and fans all ready to listen to Nicki at any time she summoned and posted, Safaree took his side to airwaves where, if anybody’s perception about him changed—it was mine. The idea who I thought he was (as a person) quickly changed during his pow-wow when he gave a surprisingly candid, honest, and respectful interview that was nothing like a “corny” dude that I was sure was going to have “rap” attitude, complete with exaggerated body language and dialect, while giving the most ego-driven responses that I (at first), did not even want to hear.
But then I listened, and these were the revelations and other poignant things I discovered:
- Onika Miraj and Safaree were friend’s long before [Onika Miraj] turned “Nicki Minaj”
- Nicki and Safaree were in a group called “Hoodstars”
- Nicki and Safaree were friends for about a year and a half before becoming lovers (still, while in the group)
- Hoodstars (with Nicki and Sarfaree) took residence in Atlanta to try and make a career in music. As a group, it wasn’t working out, so Nicki decided to try and make it work-solo (still) with Safaree coming along. Eventually, this solo success of hers popped off which (eventually) molded Safaree into being her “hype-man”—just naturally-as someone who at first, was in a group with her-who traveled with Atlanta with her as she pursued solo success. His being her “hype-man” wasn’t the result of the typical “hype-man” in a rap group: that dude that tagged along with the main event that made his way from being the main event’s homeboy to one day making his way onto the stage hyping the crowd that eventually led that to being his job. No.
- Safaree, by this time, was already Nicki’s:
- friend
- boyfriend
- former group member (turned)
- “hype man” (and eventual writing/producing partner)
- Pink Productions (a production company later started well into Nicki’s success, is owned equally by both Safaree and Nicki)
- Safaree, by this time, was already Nicki’s:
- Safaree is the one who introduced Nicki to Meek Mill (just for association and eventual business) but although they have taken up boo-ship (since the breakup of she and Safaree), he doesn’t hold that against Meek or Nicki and wishes her the very best
- The girl (Rihanna look-alike) who has pictures with Safaree and was blogged about as being his new boo is actually a very good friend of his, NOT his woman, or girlfriend
- Safaree is in no way, shape, form, or focus ready for a relationship right now and says that after all these years: the humble beginnings, the fame and success of being Nicki’s man and business partner, to now-trying to focus on his own career as a rap artist, he needs to feel what it’s like to ‘thaw out.’ Thaw out in that he wants to get back in touch with himself first-relearn himself all over again as an individual spirit and entity versus the Safaree who, all these years had been tied to the humble beginnings with Onika Miraj through to the ups and downs and the fame and success of “Nicki Minaj.”
- Safaree is Jamaican and Nicki is Trini, but no, the have never physically fought and would her never strike Nicki. He says he grew up watching his mother be beat by his father and would never do such a thing (as once reported in the news).
- Whether it is true that Nicki busted the windows out his car (as per Safaree’s being reluctant to answer / be as adamant as he was about his never striking Nicki, the court of blogger opinion ascertained that part was most probably true-reason: unknown (to the public).
HOW DID SAFAREE FEEL ABOUTE DRAKE, NICKI KISSING WAYNE IN THE MOUTH, LAPDANCING ON DRAKE ETC.
- Safaree acknowledges that if it weren’t fore Lil Wayne, not even he would be sitting here (as, he and “Nicki Minaj” were made possible all thanks due Lil Wayne.
- As far as he is concerned with rapper Drake: he really likes Drake and had no bad words about him. Says that he was always kind and respectful and actually really likes Drake.
- Although he feels some things Onika may have done [while being] “Nicki Minaj” as a boyfriend, he didn’t like some things/some things didn’t necessarily have to be done, but as a business partner-he understood.
WHAT RUINED THE RELATIONSHIP?
- That’s just it: that being “understanding” part. It eventually flipped everything into a kind of reverse–so much so that, that “understanding” part; (things being said and done by “Nicki Minaj”) pretty much crossed the “boyfriend/girlfriend” (Onika and Safaree) line.
- The intertwining of both eventually had the way “Nicki Minaj” would talk to/deal with people that were employed by her, as well-talking to and treating Safaree (the boyfriend) and Safaree (the business partner/hype man) in ways that almost couldn’t be undone or resolved any other way but to exit the relationship.
- Respect was lost on so many levels that he eventually left altogether.
WHAT HE WILL MISS:
Not the money and the fame or sex or anything like that-just miss who Onika and
