In spirit of father’s day, teammates Steph Curry and Klay Thompson sat down with their dads and reflected on their first NBA title.
As you may (or may not know) Steph Curry’s dad is former NBA star Dell Curry and Klay Thomson’s dad is former NBA player Mychal Thompson.
When asked the moment of discovery they were better than their dads Steph Curry had this to say:
“I never really thought I was better than him until my grandma, his mom, gave me that crown. She watched every one of his games and she — I don’t know if it was in high school or my first year of college — she’s at the house and she said: ‘that boy is better than you, Dell.’”
Klay’s dad Mychal Thompson (winner of two NBA titles with the Lakers in 1987 and 1988, conceded and handed the title of “best” right over to his son [Klay]:
“I’ll say it, he’s better than me. Different style of play but I’ll give it to him. He’s a better, more all-around player than I was.
…That’s the first time you’ve ever said that. It takes a championship?”
Of course, (if you’ve kept up with the NBA Finals this year) neither the dads, or Steph or Klay control the spotlight of the camera. That’s Riley Curry’s position in the game.
