OMAROSA to BETHENNY: “You Get To Walk Around and Be Mediocre and You Still Get Rewarded With Things”

a world of people who otherwise (be it lack of talent, skill, or the perseverance to succeed via hard work), it afforded this market and brand of television to have a wide audience of people who too, feel like they too, can finally be rich, famous, and successful for little or nothing and having not earned and put in work for it). So there you have “the way.”

Oprah, got into this business on “will” and hard work. And as a result of that, proved that she was “exceptional” and therefore, she earned and proved herself worthy of be rewarded with a talk show (as did the other African American women who did the same: Tyra Banks, Queen Latifah)–they earned into this business via varying talented degrees, however (unlike Bethenny and Omarosa) they did not earn into this business but got “rewarded for being mediocre” just the same (money and fame).

I know already.

To that explanation (and as per my abovementioned interpretation of what Omarosa meant-in that first box), Omarosa would most probably say (or think): “But what does that have to do with the fact of why Bethenny should be so deserving of being an Oprah rather than me? I’ve been in this business for x-amount of years (longer than Bethenny), my name is a household “brand” why not me?”

There’s no grander and explanation I can give than the one I just explained above (in Fact One and Fact Two). No matter how great Black/African American women are or how far they’ve come, we still have to go through the fire to be the phoenix and diamonds that we wish to be in order to shine. It’s not all the time as “personal” as it is “automatic”–that bottom of the totem pole thing is really real.

Don’t think that for one minute that the Tyras, the Kerrys, the Queen Latifah and the Oprahs-in all their hardworking, having earned their place on the couches of conversation and television glory didn’t (and are continuously) going through the fire. Because the fact of the matter is: African American women sort of have to be “primed” in our society (in order to have, and do, and be). We are the only race and gender that has to be primed (to shed stereotypes, and outdated, embedded, inherited, misperceptions about who, and what we are).  It’s a well-swept under the rug something that all white men, white women, and even black men know but are more demonstrative in their knowledge of it than it will ever be discussed and admitted.

So yes, with regard to Omarosa’s stating: “It’s different for you and I. I’m an African American woman. You get to walk around and be mediocre and still get rewarded for it. We have to be exceptional to get anything in this business

If you needed a clearer picture of that example, the Miley Cyrus’ wrecking ball of an explosion is a perfect example. She gets rewarded for “starting a trend” doing a mere dance that has been a part of black culture-secretly frowned upon but now revered because Miley Cyrus did it. Her reward is that she got America’s attention over something that before her, was basically ignored. Her reward is success from the controversy. She can have fun with it and not be held accountable for it but the black woman (who’s been doing it for fun, and for some-a real living) is nothing but a mere whore for doing it. Sure, you can call Miley Cyrus all these same degrading things but the fact of the matter is-Miley Cyrus will never be held accountable for any stigma, judgment or perception of her doing such a thing and whenever she is ready to, can move on pass that without incident and further judgment and stigma.

It’s not just in that business-it’s in life-period.

From the eyes of all else not like us, we seem “different” on our end of the totem pole. So
