On Ellen’s talk-show, after the monologue and audience dance, Ellen’s classic limber-overs, and arm-chair swings over the couch (on route to her chair) must have sparked a pitch of creativity.
This past Tuesday, Scripps-[Howard] announced that she would be joining the HGTV family on a six-episode competition series to be called: “Ellen’s Design Challenge” which will feature six creative competitors whose task is to sketch, design, and build furniture in just 24 hours. The last man (or woman) standing will be the winner who, throughout the challenge, consistently impressed the panel of judges by showcasing their creativity and versatility throughout.
Like only Ellen can, she joked (seriously): “I’m so excited about this show because I love finding really special pieces of furniture. One time I found a beautiful one-of-a-kind armoire that spoke to me in a way I’d never experienced. It turned out there was a drifter living inside of it, but that’s a story for another time.”
Ellen’s known for being able to play on something said with something that sounded really serious and meshed with whatever was being discussed, and three seconds later, she can have you like: “What!?”
…that was such an example. Frame it. It’s Ellen’s signature style.
For the record-just so you know, Ellen is not leaving her own talk show (or her yearly gig hosting the Oscars) for this new show.
Ellen’s Design Challenge (which will be produced by DeGeneres’ production company: A Very Good Production, along with A. Smith & Co. and Telepictures) will premiere on HGTV in 2015.
No word yet on who the judging panel will be.
I’m looking forward to a show like this!
