We first heard it from the head-honcho’s mouth: Birdman, President and CEO of Cash Money Records (who has the likes of Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil’ Wayne, Tyga, and Limp Bizkit and pop sensation: Austin Malone on its roster). Joining the family will be non-other than
“One to the Top 5 DJ’s in the World”: Paris Hilton.
It was first announced on one May day in 2013 that Paris would be joining the Cash Money Records family.
While in an interview while on the set of “Rap Fix Live” Birdman stated that Hilton fits right in the to evolving roster of artists already on Cash Money Records which has risen from their humble beginnings roots in New Orleans in the late 1990’s and since then, has grown to be one of the biggest forces in music over the years since [and continuously growing]. About Hilton, Birdman stated: “We’re hustlers, we love money and she’s already great I think. We’re music and when we put that combination together it’s special. We turned something good into something great. When she came and played her music for me, I was taken away, I was excited. I was surprised, I didn’t know what to expect when I first heard it but when I heard it, I was like it was something I’d love to work with.”
Don’t get your assumptions up to far, Hilton is comfortably in her lane so don’t expect some silly little project with a pretty skinny white girl and socialite stepping onto the scene under Birdman’s rap label pretending to be Nicki Minaj or the like.
According to Hilton, who told Showbiz 411: “This[will be] a lot different from my first album Paris [2006 which sold almost 200,000 copies in the U.S],” she explained: “It’s really going to be House Music,” says Hilton who, for quite some time now has been very popular DJ in demand on the music scene DJ from Ibiza to Vegas-and inking a huge contract with one of the largest clubs in Ibiza this past summer after packing the house and moving the crowd for several months consistently.
So she’s proving herself outside of the Paris Hilton [we all thought we were going to write her off as].
Birdman is a businessman who too, is a business, man…and knows what he is doing.
Although 200,000 albums didn’t actually kick down any statistical records doors or win her any gold statue or street or music industry cred, 200k is still a pretty respectable sales number considering the fact that Paris Hilton wasn’t marketed and branded an actual “singer” [in 2006]. Two songs off the album “Stars Are Blind” and “Nothing in this World,” did however, land on charts both here in the U.S and abroad.
Birdman is exactly no slouch in formulating success and breeding hit makers from his label, so with the way Paris has shown and proved this far, all she needs is a half-way decent song, her relationship with Cash Money will certainly be promising.
The pair (Birdman and Paris) hit the red carpet of last week’s 56th Annual Grammy Awards where Sway Calloway and “Girl Code’s” Nicole Byer spoke with Birdman about the Young Money Records compilation: “Young Money: Rise of an Empire” due to drop on March 11. When asked the Young Money Records roster’s names to appear on the compilation, Birdman told Sway: “Everybody working on the Young Money album right now,” he told Sway, and F.Y.I “everybody” includes non-other than One of the Top Five DJ’s in the World” (slash) House music singer and heiress: Paris Hilton.
