The world of celebrity is waking to and reeling from the untimely and terribly unexpected death of Oscar-winning actor and beloved comedian Robin Williams. News traveled to the world of social media in the Eastern Standard Time late evening hours on August 11, 2014.
With no note left to toll his reasoning, Williams’ body was discovered dead by his personal assistant. According to the Sheriffs Office Coroner Division, Williams’ death was due to asphyxiation with a belt. As well, reports are surfacing that Williams had originally attempted the suicide by slitting his left wrist with a pocketknife unsuccessfully-but having left “acute superficial transverse wounds.”
Although the comedian struggled with depression and drug addiction as far back as 2006, and it was just last month that he checked himself into a renewal facility that, according to reports-had been planned for a long time (rather than a last-minute decision to check in).
In addition to the tremendous influence he had in the world of comedy, and highly decorated works in film (which includes: 1989’s Dead Poets Society, 1993’s Mrs. Doubtfire, 1991’s Hook, 1995’s Jumanji, 1997’s Flubber and 1998’s Patch Adams and 1997’s drama Good Will Hunting-just to name a few), Williams is survived by his three children: Zachary (with his first wife) and daughter Zelda, and son Cody (with his second wife) and as well, his wife graphic designer Susan Schneider who stated: “This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”
Williams’ publicist Mara Buxbaum stated he had been suffering with severe depression here of late.
As you can see, he will be missed, thoroughly:
