Prince played an early morning gig yesterday (February 14) to a New York audience that included stars Michael Jordan, Beyoncé, Jay Z, Nas, Rosario Dawson and Chris Rock.
As reported by the Associated Press, the singer and his backing back – which consisted of singer Liv Warfield and the band 3RDEYEGIRL – were joined on stage by a number of celebrities, with Queen Latifah and The Roots’ Questlove among those to dance next alongside the musicians at the 23 Wall Street performance.
Hits played by the group included ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, ‘Kiss’, ‘Hot Thing’, ‘Controversy’, ‘1999’, ‘Little Red Corvette’ and ‘Purple Rain’. “I heard some people singing, but I want to hear everybody singing,” said Prince during the performance of ‘Purple Rain’, which closed the show.
Prince’s appearance marked the 30th anniversary of Michael Jordan’s popular range of sneakers.
The Purple One recently gave a surprise performance at London’s Koko, playing a lengthy set that included some of his biggest hits. That show, which was in support of the charity Autism Rocks, also attracted big names in the audience including Noel Gallagher and Zane Lowe.
