Just days after Diageo whiskey (a British beverage giant) changed from whiskey to tequila (having taken over Don Julio from Jose Cuervo), a new company (owned by Jay Z) took over Armand de Brignac Champagne [from Sovereign].
Sovereign Brand’s global director Yvonne Lardner who said this about Jay Z and the move: “We have had a wonderful relationship with Jay Z throughout the years since he first discovered Armand de Brignac. He became interested in owning the brand and made us an offer we simply couldn’t refuse,” then expressed: “We are proud to announce that Sovereign Brands, a New York-based wine and spirits company owned by the Berish family, has sold its interest in the Armand de Brignac (‘Ace of Spades’) Champagne brand to a new company led by the globally renowned Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter.
‘Ace of Spades’ and Jay Z go way back.
A bottle of the champagne once appeared in his 2006 video Show Me What You Got” which, according to sources was a prop made visible on purpose-because he liked the champagne so much.
As well, in September 2012, along with his superstar wife Beyonce, when Jay Z held a fundraiser at his 40/40 club in New York (for President Obama), 350 bottles of Armand de Brignac champagne were on deck at the shin dig.
Jay Z’s love of, and association with the champagne doesn’t stop there. The owners of the “Vault” suites at the Barclays Center arena (Brooklyn) have a champagne bar at their disposal that too, serves Armand de Brignac which too, is popular among many athletes.
The Dallas Mavericks and Boston Bruins have gone down in sports history having celebrated championships and guzzling down Armand de Brignac.
In 2013, David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox, popped a 15 liter bottle of it after his team won the 2013 World Series.
How much is this widely celebrated bottle of champagne, you ask?
Established in 1763 in Chigny Les Roses, France; Armand de Brignac is made by Cattier house company. A bottle of the champagne[’s Brut Gold] retails for $300. A 30-liter bottle (weighing around 100 pounds and is the equivalent of 40 regular sized bottles) has sold for over $200,000.00.
