So The Amber Rose “Slut Walk” finally launched, but before yous could get your panties in a bunch she already forewarned:
“I’m Not A Role Model For Your Children, My SlutWalk Is For Grown Women.”
As easy as it is to translate that as [meaning]: “strictly for the grown and sexy,” the fact of the matter is: It’s not quite about the ‘sexy’ of it as it is about the grown [of it]: A bold walk into the streets of L.A in hopes of sending jolts of shock value to adults in hopes of jarring up conversation and dialogue to create understanding of [what Amber feels is] necessary lines in the sand of accepting the negative, derogatory definition of [being] or being called a slut, versus standing on the front lines proclaiming in full confidence: “Call me what you want but this is my body (and sexuality) and I can do whatever I damn well please with it.”
Reminiscent, but the antithesis of the Million Man March (a meeting and gathering of black men from around the world in an effort to convey a vastly different picture of “the black male” as stereotyped), the “Slut Walk” is a gathering of women seeking to defy derogatory stereotypes and the refusal to be defined by them.
With a title [whose origin stems from a 2011 Toronto college sexual assault case] where the women meeting about it-in turn, were victimized twice when the authorities who addressed the incident placed the blame back onto the female species as a “reason” for some animal of a male being ‘enticed’ to do so-stating: “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.”
Having been slut-shamed herself online-turned up even more after posting shots like these, and in turn, soliciting over 1300 unwanted Internet comments that read like: “Instagram turning these hoes’ into wives my nigga Wiz said it best ‘These hoes… they Fa everybody!‘’ and too, by the very same man with whom she bares a child: hip hop artist Wiz Khalifa, and as well ex boyfriend and rapartist: Kanye West; the former stripper turned model (now) activist had enough of taking a back seat to name-calling defeat.
Organized with assault and rape victims in mind, for women who are slut-shamed by both men (and other women), and as well, for transgender women who too, are slut shamed, for many months and Sundays the self-monikered “Muva Rosebud” has been planting and planning this event that finally took full bloom on the streets of L.A’s Pershing Square and will soon be blossoming to a Miami, Philadelphia, and New York city street near you.
But back in these Twitter streets, Tweeps are watching and called Amber out for having referred to Kim Kardashian a whore following an online feud that 
ensured after Kanye West did a radio interview where he joked about his having to take 20 showers after dating Amber Rose and [‘moving on up?’] to Kim Kardashian.
Although Amber has yet to answer to what some Tweeps are calling the hypocrisy of her referring to her rival as a whore or not, the fact of the matter is; she is active in seeking to get a resolution to all this slut shaming–with a right to take selfies, have sex [with whomever she wishes to], or strip or twerk as she wishes to: uninterrupted (and without incident, verbal attack and negative labels attached).
The blur with that is-considering a society built on gender role norms (that since the beginning of time) was birthed by:
- women reproducing and men producing (stability)
- women being/expected to be reactive and men being/expected to be active
…it’s not going to be an easy feat to tell the world that [thanks to the new age way to be an independent woman] given the birth of:
- the selfie
- a social media platform
and
- the ability to be make a living and get life by way of each
…being free with whomever you wish to do and be should just be accepted.
The thinking, hoping and feeling behind Amber Rose’s movement is that rather than being shunned and frowned upon in real life, the acceptance of the lifestyle glorified on the Internet and social media platform should too, be accepted in the virtual/real life world which unfortunately, is a double-edge sword for ladies like Rose.
While (now) being able to see the world around us at the click of a button has changed the world in awesome ways, it’s also given the world an awe-struck peek into lifestyles (that before social media) were secret, underground. frowned upon and deemed low class and unacceptable, that (now)-is glorified e.g,: strippers, professional groupies, bartenders etc.
There are advantages and disadvantages to it all and unfortunately, it’s the women (like Rose, who, still-despite their bravery and seeming confidence) are still women with ‘female emotions’ who have the same needs as any other woman (and too-the right to wish be respected as any other woman does).
With the invent of social media, these very same underground lifestyles (e.g, strippers, professional groupies, bartenders etc.) have come to roost and rule. They rule:
- online
- in the night life/night clubs
and
- reality television
…that’s it. There, the world is theirs.
In real life however, (hence Ambers fight), the world/real life is a cruel-cruel place.
For, when it comes to real life situations they are left with:
- Candy for men who can afford and will date these types–contingent upon just as much social media show off as these very same girls (who too) parade it around. But at the end of the day in their life (most often than not), these relationships and these people and these men and these women in this lifestyle of theirs, are all revolving doors and stage shows for:
- Other women who covet them (wishing to be apart of that lifestyle)
- Sensible women who pity them (because of our knowing what’s really going on underneath it all)
- Hateful women who envy or hate them
- Eye Candy for men who can’t afford these types who see (and view) them as eye candy-and somehow (in their minds) live vicariously through it and (in their real life), set standards of their real-life women and girlfriends that somehow (in their minds and mobile device swipes) give these ‘can’t affords’ a feeling of entertaining the thought that they could one day have/afford these types
While all that may seem exciting and such a high for these [Amber Rose] types while glittering and turning on their social media axis’ for the world watching, the only thing they have to show for it is the glitter-yet (for many of these women) behind the glitter is dust: relationship rotation and redundancy, loneliness, despair, questions (and for many): a fight—like Amber Rose bravely took on while the rest hide behind the glitter.
For all these women, [when] these men are done using them and having left with having pumped and inflated their notches, repertoires, “worth,” and having layered their social reputations, these women are left with nothing but just the reputations…and viola—the need seen for a “Slut Walk” revolution and desire to be taken seriously, treated equally and with respect is born.
The unfortunate part about that is-whether a woman is a lifestyle peer of Amber Rose or a part of life out in the real world, gender roles in society that we adhere that BUILT this society will never be broken, changed or reckoned with-despite however women refute the shun say they are in support of the “Slut Walk” as, it is not just the men who need to accept it, but moreover, an entire society of:
- gender role norms
- expectations
- traditions
…that need to approve it.
That said, it’s virtually impossible for a woman to successfully wear her “slut” on her sleeve…because no matter how financially independent she is, or confident in her “slut” she claims to be, the very same men she needs love and respect from that too, needs to hear and heed the message; are already backed by an entire society that will never conform to it and will forever continue to support men in their choice NOT to accept it (and turn a deaf ear, blind eye, and heart to it), unfortunately.
