It almost resembles a vintage drug PSA-an exchange between father and son:
…a kind of blast from the past that’s repeating itself in the Downey bloodline.
Indio Downey, 20, son of Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. was arrested in West Hollywood [California] for drug possession. He was being pulled over during a routine traffic stop by which he was a passenger-searched. Cocaine was found on his person and as a result, he was arrested and held on $10,000.00 bail but released on Monday.
Given Robert Downey Jr.’s past run-ins with the law and drug use himself, obviously, hearing his 20 year-old son is arrested for drugs is not the call any father wants to get however, he released a statement to our guys over at TerMiteZ saying (quote): “Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being. We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale” (unquote).
As you may well know (or not) it was public knowledge-Robert Downey Jr.’s battle with drug addiction-and one that eventually led him to doing time in prison.
Although only 20 years young, according to reports, Indio has struggled with drug use for some years however, his father (clean and sober since 2003) has been “deeply involved” in trying to keep him clean despite reportedly feeling a “degree of guilt” for his son’s drug use.
Having overcome his very own demons and being well-aware of the perils and the self-destruction brought about because of drug use, perhaps Downey’s triumphant return to clean a sober life may be one such [that] his son Indio follows the footsteps of–soon than later.
