The boxing gym offers free after-school boxing and educational mentoring for children.

The Like a Prayer singer and [2008 Rock and Roll] Hall of Famer will be providing funding for the new facility and too, will be buying new equipment for other programs under the umbrella of the facility’s curriculums.

Additionally, the Express Yourself pop star will be providing art and music supplies for the Detroit Achievement Academy, as well as providing assistance to a nonprofit (The Empowerment Plan)-an organization that employs homeless women who sew garments that are distributed to the homeless.

MADONNA_PhotoCredit_Rex USA_2  Regarding the city’s efforts to bounce back from the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S history, the Material Girl said in a written statement: “I was deeply inspired by the efforts of so many people who I met who have dedicated themselves to helping the kids and adults in Detroit elevate themselves from the cycle of poverty. It was obvious to me that I had to get involved and be part of the solution to help Detroit recover.

She humbly added (about her hometown and the love of it): “A piece of my heart will always be in Detroit, and I’m humbled to be able to give back to my community,” she said.
