No one knows if a vulgar rant three-time world champ Adrien Broner (with a reported net worth of $3 million) spewed was because he was offered a 40 million 5-year bare minimum to sign with Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports in comparison to several other boxers like heavyweight contender Bryant Jennings, Wladimir Klitschko, junior welterweight contender Thomas Dulorme, Perez; Maicelo, middleweight Tureano Johnson, lightweight prospect Kenneth Simms Jr., welterweight Francisco Santana, former middleweight titlist Daniel Geale, and newly signed 27-0 middleweight: Andre Ward (among the 20 or so boxers that inked a deal under Roc Nation) but the fact of the matter is: he did.
Roc Nation (in a merger with Gary Shaw Productions where Shaw, along with chief operating officer David Itskowitch) will run Roc Nation’s boxing division in the merger has been cooking over the holidays-less Broner.
Although Jay Z has been signing like Santa, Broner, as you’ll see in the video atop the OSF big screen, (as per him) having elected to not be a part of the reindeer games, spews as if he either felt slighted, or simply had other issues with Shaw, or Jay Z and Roc Nation that perhaps we know nothing about. Either way, it was pretty out there. Your guess is as good as ours-as to why he dragged Roc nation’s rasta Rihanna into his rant:
Obviously no response by Jay Z: CEO of Roc Nation Sports who (in addition to having baseball’s Robinson Cano, football’s Dez Bryant, and basketball’s Kevin Durant) is too busy in love over new management-having acquired such a lucrative boxing roster and business venture with Shaw.
Roc Nation Sports spokesman Ron Berkowitz proclaimed: “Gary Shaw joins David as the heads of Roc Nation boxing, and they’ll make a great team to help lead the company through this venture.”
“I have joined the company. I really do think that they can do for a fighter what nobody else can by strength of
their entertainment and music talent and the athletes they represent. When someone says they’re with Roc Nation, it really means something. They’re at the top of the game, and being with Roc Nation will elevate the boxers,”
expressed Shaw who also stated:
“This was an opportunity to leave a different type of legacy in boxing. Roc Nation and Jay Z to me are as big as it gets. They are a great company with a great brand, and if I can elevate boxing and the boxers like they do with their music acts and their athletes, that would be a legacy, and that’s what I am shooting for. I am shooting to build Roc Nation Sports into a boxing powerhouse, ”
explaining:
“It was a very good deal for me and my fighters to join Roc Nation. It’s not life-changing for me in terms of the money, but it was a good deal. But I did it because I thought it was the right thing to do at the right time for me and my fighters. I think it will bring them to a whole new level. We’ll be able to get endorsements for fighters and do things other companies just can’t do.”
To celebrate the completion of the merger, attended by Jake Gyllenhaal, rapper Fabolous, Roc Nation held its first card Friday night at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, which was headlined by welterweight prospect Dusty Hernandez-Harrison v. Tommy Rainone where he also brought with him-his top music artist, knockout: Rihanna–to get a hit of the mounting Roc Nation empire by which she is a part.
Later that evening, Rihanna was also spotted headed out to the Trattoria & Crudo Bar at the Mondrian SoHo in New York bringing “sand to the beach” (wine glass in hand), yo! LoL!
