“I’ll Have Stupid For 1000 Alex”

When trying to answer a question on Jeopardy with that god-awful chiming playing over head and the pulse of your heart dancing to the beat of those two gongs sounds coming your way towards end-song; I can only imagine how tense it must be to have money on the table and the world’s camera in your face awaiting an answer proving your intelligent prowess.

I’m straddled the fence as to whether or not certain things are expected of you to know qualify you as “dumb” or if it warrants a shun, but Alex Trebek was less than impressed with a contestants response when given the clue and asked:

Here’s the clue: 100+ assists in an NHL season has been accomplished only 13 times, 11 times by this player.”

Answer: “Magic Johnson”

…so said the contestant.

Correct answer: Wayne Gretsky

Well needless to say, the contest was met with scorn and ridicule but I don’t know if anybody understood his answer, but to me (despite my not even knowing the correct answer but knowing full well Magic Johnson did NOT play in the NHL but rather the NBA), I’m willing to be the contest only listened to one word in the entire clue and question and that word was: “Assists.”

So rather than my laughing at him, I’m willing to bet that subconsciously, Magic Johnson is to Assists, what Basketball is to Magic Johnson.

It’s kind of a compliment.

Even the President’s Guy’s knows this guy.
