What It Means To Try: Meet The Little Girl Singing JOHN LEGEND’s “All Of Me” Against All Statistical Odds

luck, or sheer faith that your willingness to try will see you through is personal, I feel.

john-legendSo when I came across a cute little story of a little girl with Down Syndrome attempting to singing a song by singer-musician John Legend called All of Me, my thoughts about “trying” and what trying looks like, came right back to mind.

As a warning to you, don’t let the your mind prepare you for American Idol, YouTube covers, or the Beyonce’s and Christina Aguilera’s (for what the little girl is about to deliver when you press ‘play.’)

I will put you on notice rettttttttt now: there are no knock-down, drag-out no riffs, or seizure-like head bobbings going on that somebody like Beyonce or Christina (who can stand there and bust it-and sing a hole in you) can do.

No, it’s not about that.

It’s about the fact that because of her “disability;” pitch, communication, speech, language and especially expressive speech (and even “personality”) is not something that a person with Down Syndrome is able to put forth or give out. Those things like such, (that you and I take advantage of having just-naturally), is something that people with that form of retardation cannot do statistically and usually: never.

So to see the video and not know what a person with her condition (typically) cannot do, yes, one would probably laugh as say “What? I mean it’s okay, but…”

But now that you know all that you just read (and what the video’s narrator will put upon the screen to help you with understanding), this video too, (like the one above it) is what it means to “try.”

Take a look:

P.S.

There’s a personal, funny, and cute irony about this very same song (All of Me) that I’d like to share.

Just recently (a couple months ago), I was working on an assignment. And this girl and I made nice. She was kind. Her English wasn’t very good-but she understood—we could converse slowly and with intense eye-contact. And we could laugh.

When we would be working on our assignment, music would be playing and we’d discover
