(says) …“Why yes Uncle Sam. Just let me whip out my checkbook and write you this check for a cool $1.1 million dollars right quick.”
Well that’s something singer-songwriter Lionel Richie can sing and say that many of us simply cannot.
Back in 2012 Richie was slapped with a tax lien for failing to pay more than $1 million dollars income taxes for the 2010 year but just recently (unlike the rest of normal folks) Lionel paid the tax debt-in full-‘easy like Sunday morning’ and well…’sailed on’ about his way.
Perhaps “Ugly Betty” actress Vanessa Williams is going to have to follow suit.
She was recently sent a bill from the U.S authorities alleging the actress/singer owes somewhere around $370k in unpaid taxes.
The Work to Do singer was issued the lien earlier this month in lieu of an address mix-up on the Save the Best for Last singer’s 2011 tax return.
The discrepancy was due to the fact that the documents were filed under her accountant’s Manhattan address. Although a New York resident, Williams lives the hamlet of Chappaqua.
Needless to say, Vanessa Williams doesn’t have to bother singing: “Hello, is it me you’re looking for?”…considering the fact that the IRS has now located the correct address of the Comfort Zone singer.
Other notables having been recently placed up under the IRS microscope of scrutiny include singers Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, rapper FloRida, Courtney Love and actor Michael Madsen.
