Well just so [if there’s ever any question about who upgraded who, and put them on to that ‘new’]-Kanye and Kim won’t ever have to go back and forth over that fact, on Instagram, or wax-because his friend (designer and Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci) let everyone in on this fact: Kim Kardashian was accepted “by nobody” in the fashion community even up to and including when they (he and Kim) first became friends—friends by way of and through Kanye that is (who Tisci became friends with when teaming up with he and Jay Z on their Watch the Throne collabo).
Tisci also makes it clear that he only because friends with Kim on the strength of Kanye being a friend of his and still (Tisci asserts): “I got killed” for being friends with Kim Kardashian because she was accepted by “nobody” however interjected [that] “she’s a sweet girl” but still-no one accepted her [before Kanye brought her in].
Although this all sounds high-school and cliquish, fiercely loyal to his “inner circle” of friends (even when it’s not cool to be), Tisci stated that he surrounds himself with people he likes-regardless of their social standing or resume and looks for others to do the same.
“They feel that I’m not there to dress a celebrity. I dress people even when they don’t have an Oscar nomination or they don’t have an album out,” Tisci tell Details.
“If they’re my friends, I respect them to the end. And you need to feel people stay with you because they love you, not only as an artist, but also as a human being. Look at Kanye and Kim — at the beginning I was the only one.”
Tisci makes no qualms about the fact that Kanye worked to build Kim up in the fashion industry—he and Kanye that is says Tisci [quote]:
“And Kanye and me, we did it together. Every designer is dying to dress her now.”
[unquote].
Might all this explain why Tisci put Kim in that controversial, questionable, floral ensemble (knowing she was big and preggers) and sent her across the red carpet in that contraption of dress at 2013’s Met Gala?
Well, they got over that hump and Kim finally got her “social security” because since all that Tisci did create her wedding gown which (May 2014) she married Kanye in.
“I didn’t care what people thought about Kim,” he explained.
“In the beginning, I met her because of my respect for Kanye, and then I liked her a lot and we became friends. I got killed because of this. But I didn’t care. That is a friend, you see. And that is why, when they got married, they asked me to dress them. They say, ‘You’ve always been with us. You’ve been a real friend.’ If I like somebody, I like somebody. If I don’t like somebody, I don’t like somebody?”
Well, if you saw the interview Kanye just did that aired Friday, this (within the first 20 minutes not only is his vision for fashion clear) he all gives us a clear understanding about what he meant by making sure Kim’s and her body type is accepted by people, in places, and gets dressed by designers/people who otherwise would not accept or dress Kim.
All could very well explain that strange looking moment when Kim and Kanye (who, at one time-for a long time in his career hated the paparazzi and has now embraced them) showed up to the Roc Nation brunch and this display happened:
