Although having performed on for Grammy festivities on Sunday, while Rihanna’s absence was met with malice by mad fans at her last minute decision to pull out of performing at last night’s Grammy’s was due to doctor’s orders, Lauryn Hill’s absence was (literally) out of order.
The 5x time Grammy winning Album of the Year and Best New Artist, artist was penciled in to perform during artist The Weeknd’s set but was a no show.
Despite the show going on without incident (in front of the cameras), reportedly, Hill did show up on Monday morning for dress rehearsal but was a no-show for the live, televised annual award show.
Perhaps paths, statements, and wires got crossed-somewhere in this.
“The Grammys announced a performance by Ms. Lauryn Hill prematurely and without approval. Ms. Hill had concerts all weekend, leaving no time to prepare, and was uncertain she would even be able to make it to L.A. in time to rehearse for the event. Any performance that could have happened was never confirmed, and should not have been advertised as such. Ms. Hill was invited to do a collaboration with an artist she appreciates. The performance was intended to be a surprise and unfortunately due to its last minute nature, was unable to come to fruition.”
Despite showing up earlier on Monday for dress rehearsal, while one report’s going around to the media stating Lauryn’s publicist noted that Lauryn’s weekend tour schedule conflicted with her performance slot during The Weeknd’s set, another report is making its rounds: that Hill arrived too late for the performance.
If that be the real reason (considering Lauryn’s tardiness to many of her shows is becoming just as big a subject as her greatness), well beyond “jitters,” or fear…could it be that Lauryn has a pre-show ritual that forces her to be late?
More than just her Mercury and Gemini frequency and tentacles tingling…Stage freight? Some spiritual ritual?
