Young Soul PATTI LABELLE Gets Down to 50 Cent “In Da Club” On DWTS

You can’t expect anything less than spunk from the originator of the hot hit song “Lady Marmalade” (remade by Pink, Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya and Missy Elliott in 2004).

Even more than that-a woman who (let my mom tell you the notorious stories of) will kick her shoes off mid-song and break you to your knees with a mic in her hand-has to have spunk twice-over—I know, right?

Hilarity.

As my generation would have it, any woman from my mom’s generation who would interview with Free and AJ of the retired BET 106 and Park video music show declaring her favorite song (at the time) was from another defunct BET after-hours music video show called BET Uncut-[a vulgar rap song and video called “Tell Me What-That Thang ….”] you KNOW she must be all the way live.

One awkward caught off-guard day while BET was doing a tribute to LaBelle, Free and AJ asked her a question by which her response took everybody aback:

download (1)What are you listening to?” [sic] they asked.

{Patti LaBelle}:  “There’s this video that comes on when all the babies are asleep. I don’t know if I can say it, but it’s called ‘What That Thing Smell Like.’

I will never forget that day. I mean I just can’t.

It was hilarious!

Knowing and loving this singing woman (who’s an awesome cook but lover of Burger King burgers) my mom had introduced me to many-a-Saturday morning while playing her music, it can’t be denied that she’s obviously a young soul.

Being tickled by several interviews of hers; one can’t help but love her even more when while on some other interview some time ago, she was the first woman outside of our generation to lay claims on her love for “In Da Club” when it first dropped-I’ll never forget her enthusiasm.

Turns out, like she mentioned (in the vintage 2003 interview)-when that song comes on, she can’t help but (like my mom said)………….come out of her shoes and dance!

Well turns out, the soul-singing powerhouse, young soul and funny lady was serious about her dancing song as (shoes on), it was brought to life on the world’s stage in an element different than the usual one she’s known for commanding.

LaBelle was apart of DWTS Week 2/Season 3 where she and Artem took to the stage doing her on rendition of Salsa.

Ms. Patti LaBelle showed us JUST what she was talking about when she first laid claims on the popular hit rap song (by 50 Cent)!

P.S.

This is one of my favorite songs by this lady. I mean-over the years, I have perfected and dissected how this song was written-down to the octave changes at “I love” (4x to be exact-beginning around the 3rd minute and 20th second of it).

My preparation starts around that 3:00 minute mark…and from there-it’s on!

I mean, this song is one of my ballad obsessions-it just does something to me inside and always will. From the very beginning to the very end, it creeps up on me like slow fingers. That’s the best way I can explain it. I LOVE singing this song.

Enjoy:

Told you Patti LaBelle’s a young soul 🙂
